Before the war, the Hikawa Maru was a passenger ship that connected the United States and Japan, but during the war it was commandeered by the Navy and used as a hospital line, transporting injured soldiers from overseas to inland.
After the war, it was used as a salvage ship to transport Japanese people left behind in various places to the mainland.
Some time after the war, she once again entered service on the route connecting the United States and Japan, ending her life as a passenger ship and is currently moored at Yamashita Park in Yokohama.

氷川丸は戦前はアメリカと日本を結ぶ客船だったが戦争により海軍に徴用され病院線として外地から内地へ負傷兵などを運んでいた。
戦後は引き揚げ船として各地に残された日本人を内地へ輸送していた。
戦後しばらく経ち再びアメリカと日本をむすぶ航路に就航、客船としてその生涯を終え現在は横浜、山下公園に係留されている。
